The core optical components of the car camera

2024-04-23

The on-board camera is known as the "eye of automatic driving" and is the core sensing equipment in the field of ADAS system and automobile automatic driving. The acquisition function of image information is realized mainly through the lens and image sensor, which can realize 360 ° visual perception and make up for the defects of radar in object recognition. It is the sensor closest to human vision.
On-board cameras are widely used in the automotive field, from the early use of driving records, reversing images, parking surround view gradually extended to intelligent cockpit behavior recognition and ADAS assisted driving, application scenarios are increasingly rich.
The current global car camera industry CR3 is 41%, the world's top ten companies occupy 96% of the market share, the global car camera industry concentration is at a high level.
Optical Components
The optical components (mainly including lenses, filters, and protective films) in the lens group of the vehicle-mounted camera play a key role in the quality of the image generated by the camera.
Take a vehicle DVR's hidden wide FOV angle lens as an example.
The material of the lens barrel is generally metal, but there are also plastic ones. The metal lens barrel will have better quality, high and low temperature resistance and other indexes, but it also has disadvantages. The metal sleeve will produce metal mechanical powder when the screw is twisted, which will lead to the risk of falling into the COMS photosensitive area. Moreover, the hardness of the metal sleeve is relatively hard, and the PCBA with COMS chip on the bottom plate will easily deform when the bottom plate is screwed, this results in a change in resolution after imaging.
There are two main types of lens materials, one is glass and the other is plastic.
Glass lens: G for the abbreviation, the surface is mostly spherical, glass grinding processing;
Plastic lens: P for the abbreviation, the surface is mostly aspheric, injection molding.
The material of the lens is usually glass. The high temperature resistance and scratch resistance of glass are very good. The surface hardness of glass is better than plastic. Of course, glass also has disadvantages and is expensive. Moreover, the overall thickness of the camera becomes thicker. However, glass lenses must be used in the vehicle relative to the performance requirements. Therefore, 6G can be seen here, that is, 6 glass sheets are used.
